Towards Better Dialogue in Future.

The past 3 months have been quite a ride a for Band of Peers. We have been able to maintain a weekly publication even though, that was not the initial plan.

We also have embarked to the second stage – video production. Since September we have conducted multiple recordings in multiple locations and recently, we have successfully released our first video of a panel discussion regarding Celebrity Endorsement on Dietary Supplements – which is the central theme of our first edition. Do check our video through Our Feed page.

We would not be able to accomplish all these activities without the wonderful team work and dedications showcased by the Band of Peers Crew: Azwin Zamri, Mohammad Afiq Jamalis, Syazwani Billah Shahrul Laili and happy to introduce you to the latest edition in our crew – Michelle Liong Fong Fong, as our field correspondent. We also would like to say our thanks to all our panellists: Lt. Col. Rizal, Najjib Aziz, Dr. Aziz Azizan, Dr. Aaqil Azman, Dr. Hazwani Bahar and all the support team and friends that are involved with the video editing.

Empowering public and increasing awareness have always been the central theme for Band of Peers. In our second quarter edition, we highlight two social-related issues that are relevant and current, but have been under-explored by our societies. These issues are discussed in two articles in particular: (1) Social column – How You Survive Long Distance Relationship written by me and (2) Research Column – Insight Story Behind Research Collaboration of Amazon and Andean Rainforests written by our regular, Dr. Nur Hazwani Bahar.

In long distance relationship article, I provide a compilation of stories and challenges by couples who have experienced long distance relationship. In her article, Dr. Hazwani Bahar provides us insights to her personal struggle while completing her research degree. As a researcher myself, I find her story hits too close to home and then I realised that none of us have openly discussed about it. Thus, through these two articles, we hope to inspire better understanding and probably, healthier dialogues relating to the highlighted issues in our communities.

We at Band of Peers appreciate your support and wishes you all the best in 2018 and hope to see you again with more inspiring stories and discussion in our 2019 issue.

Welcome to the first edition of Band of Peers. Our issue is designed for the contemporary society who while enjoy entertaining reads, also crave for more in-depth discussion on wide-range of topics.

The benefits of living in technological age, we are swimming in a sea of information. However, not all information can be trusted. Sometimes, they are contrary to the scientific truth and thus, ends up working against you. With Band of Peers, we aim to reduce the noise in such information by providing useful information and discussion from trustworthy sources.

Band of Peers idea was inspired in April, 2018 out of completely innocent attempt to procrastinate from working on my first research journal publication. Basking on my short victory of freedom I began to pitch my idea, starting with my husband and then our close friends, colleagues and potential writers. What I have not expected that how well received the idea was. From there, a small but enthusiastic team is formed and by August, 2018 we are ready to launch our first online edition.

We wish you enjoy our first issue as well as we enjoy working on it.
